The interior of the Holy House, October 1931. Fr Patten used compass points widely in his descriptions of the buildings, and the main entrance to the shrine is liturgically the West front. The caption writer of this postcard has used 'west' to describe this end of the Holy House, although the altar end is the west end rather than the expected east, and could only be valid if one is thinking of the Holy House as a separate entity. In general the Holy House was not described in this detail and ambiguity did not arise.
